Liebster Award for Hepcat Hannah

Liebster Award, Hepcat HannahSo, what the heck is the Liebster Award?  I was curious myself, as I’d never heard of it until I was nominated.  Come to find out, the word liebster is a German word meaning “dearest.”  The Liebster Award is given to bloggers by other bloggers, with the goal of introducing new blogs to the blogosphere.  I think that’s pretty sweet, don’t you?

I am pleased to announce that I have been nominated for the Liebster Award.  Thank you so much to Katie from Kitty to City for nominating me!

And here is the part where I get to answer the 11 questions that Katie has asked me.  What fun!  At the end, I will list my own nominations, explain what to do if you were nominated for the Liebster Award, and list 11 questions of my choice.

1. Tell Us a Bit About Yourself:

Where to start?  I’m a vintage girl, who lives on a farm, and likes to explore the world in her spare time.  I’m also crazy about fiction, whether it be books or movies.  I’ve been an avid reader pretty much since I started reading, and a writer since my early teens.  That’s probably why I travel so much.  When I’m on a trip, my imagination runs wild in the best possible way.  In fact, it’s very hard to balance my need to write fiction, while keeping up with my travel blog at the same time.

2. What’s your blog all about?

I write about classy travel on a budget, with a bit of a vintage twist.  How can you put a vintage twist on travel, you ask?  Well, I’m still working on that.  All I know is, I’m enamored with everything vintage, and a complete wanderlust addict at heart.  Can both of those be paired together?  I think so.
Quite frequently, you’ll find me raving about classic travel films.  And I know someday, I’ll visit Agios Georgios on the isle of Crete, simply because I fell in love with The Moon-Spinners, and read the 1962 novel of the same name.
And then there is the town of Cong, situated on boarders of Co. Galway and Co. Mayo in Ireland, the filming location of an old family favorite of ours, The Quiet Man.  Wouldn’t you like to see a blog post about the fictional town of Inisfree, and an inside view of Pat Cohan’s Bar?

So, now you know.  I write about classy budget travel with touch of vintage thrown in.  And, I’d like to know, what do you think of my niche?  Let me know in the comments!

3. What do you love about blogging?

I love that I can write about anything & everything I want.  Sure, it’s all connected to travel, but that’s what drives me right now.  Travel is where my passion lies, and I want to share that zeal with others.  I love that I have the possibility, however small, of influencing someone to travel too.  Even if it’s just a single solitary person.
A smart person once said, “To be inspired is a wonderful thing.  But, you’ll never forget that feeling when you’ve inspired someone else.”

I want to inspire people.  With my blog, I have the ability to do that.  There are hundreds of reasons to keep me from being a travel blogger.  I deal with social anxiety on a daily basis, and airports scare the heck out of me.  Half the time I’m unemployed, the other half I’m sort of self-employed.  I don’t have the kind of financial life that makes traveling easy.  And yet I manage to fulfill my wanderlust because I make my dreams a priority.

So, what I’m saying is, if I can have the kind of life I want, then so can you.

4. What is one goal you have for your blog in 2016?

I want to apply everything I learned from the Women in Travel Summit.  I want my niche to be more clear, and concise.  I want to know my target audience.  I want to monetize my blog the right way (nix on the nuisance ads).
I learned so much from that blogging conference, I can’t pick just one item.  So I want to pick everything.  That’s my goal for my blog this year.  To do things right.

5. What is the strangest thing you’ve eaten while traveling?

That would be oxtail.  Come to find out, that’s a normal thing to eat in Panama.  While I admit it tasted fine, I still can’t get over the concept.  My family owns cows, I know for a fact how disgusting a cow’s tail really is.  I just can’t eat that part of the cow without letting my mind wander.  You get the picture.  *blah!*

6. Where is your next trip?

Ah, that is a good question!  To tell you the truth, my next destination of choice is always changing.  One day I’m going to Hawaii, the next I’m certain I’m bound for Cancun, and then I change my mind & hop on a plane bound for California.
At the moment, I do have several definite possibilities.  One, is going down to visit my friend Ronda in Guatemala, once she’s moved there this Summer.
Another possibility is visiting New Orleans, since our local Branson airport is supposed start offering flights (on a budget airline) to MSY starting May 27th.
And then I’ve been wanting to put together a trip to somewhere in Quintana Roo, Mexico.  Tulum maybe?  Or Bacalar?

7. What is your spirit animal and why?

I took a test for this awhile back, and the results were just too perfect.  I kinda already knew what I was, because I think everyone already has an inkling of what they identify with most.  So, without further ado (although you can probably guess from the picture), *clears throat*… I am a swan!
The swan is a symbol of peace and tranquility.  Swans are also associated with fidelity, loyalty, effortlessness, timelessness, elegance, purity, and grace.

Grace is the one that I found to be ironic, as that is the meaning of my name (Hannah).  Grace or graceful.  I wish it guaranteed that I was a good dancer.  But it hasn’t, I still have two left feet.  Too bad because I’d love to be a divine swing dancer!

8. Favorite movie?

Do I have to choose just one favorite?  Growing up, I’d always say it was The Man From Snowy River.  And that is still a favorite of mine.  I mean really.  It has horses, romance, an unforgettable musical score, and it’s filmed in Australia.  What more could you ask for?

I think I’ll go ahead and list my top five favorite movies:

9. Do you have a nickname? If so…what is it and how’d you get it?

Why yes, I have several.  When I was in my early teens, I was called Hannah Banana quite a lot.  Thank heavens it didn’t stick.
One day my friends started calling my Sensei.  It had to do with the fact that I was teaching a small sewing class (which happened to morph into a knitting & crocheting class).  I am a bit of a craft-a-holic, and I like to share my knowledge with others. 🙂  Anyhow, to this day my dear friend Ashley still calls me Sensei & nothing else.
I’ve also been called Hepcat a few times recently.  Mostly because of my blog. 😉

10. Fun fact about you.

I am secretly a Suzy Homemaker type.  No, really.  Half the time I am Miss Liberated Travel Blogger, and the other half I’m like a 1950s housewife.  Talk about a complete contrast of interests, ethics, and worldviews.
I am prepared to admit that I know how to & am quite good at the following (If I do say so myself):  Cooking, baking, cleaning, sewing, knitting, crocheting, soap making, weaving, and a variety of other things.

And, I just love my Betty Crocker’s 1950 Classic Cookbook!

11. Assuming you like or have heard of Harry Potter, which house would you be in and why? If you don’t know you are a Hufflepuff.

I had to take a quiz for this.  I didn’t want to just accept the fact that I have no idea what this question means, and consent to the fact that I am “just a Hufflepuff.”  Even if the name is cute.
I’ll have to admit, I’m not a Harry Potter fan.  It’s just not my thing.  I’ve watched one of the movies, but I don’t even know which one it was.
Anyhow, the quiz said that my house is Gryffindor.  And then I took a second test to be sure, and it too said Gryffindor.
So there you have it.  I belong in the house of Gryffindor.
Gryffindor values courage, bravery, nerve, and chivalry.  It’s colors are scarlet and gold, and it’s mascot is the lion.  And yes, I wikipediaed everything above.

About Hannah

Hannah is a vintage girl with two things always on her mind: Traveling & Books. When she’s not out exploring the world, she is at home on her parent’s farm in the Ozarks, planning her next adventure or writing romantic fiction. The travel bug hit her at an early age, and she skipped the college scene in favor of a career in travel blogging. Hannah loves jazz music, is slightly obsessed about her INFJ personality type, and is a lot quieter in person than she is in the blogosphere. Until you get to know her, that is.
