Cheers! I’m going to tell you about my purse. Such a fascinating topic, right? No really, this is an important subject for a traveler.
When I made the decision to travel the world & be a travel blogger, I realized that I needed to up my game luggage-wise & etc. I needed a trusty bag to hold all my valuables & sundries.
Not that my favorite purse wasn’t trustworthy. It just wasn’t anti-theft.
I did a whole lot of shopping around, and reading reviews on other travel blogger’s sites, before I set my sights on this one.
First, let’s talk about what to look for in an anti-theft shoulder bag (or at least what I was looking for):
- Completely zippered w/locks
- RFID blocking ability
- Slash-proof construction
This bag has all of that, plus more. I was also wanting something that was sleek, modern, and still somewhat feminine. In the past, I’ve pretty much been a dedicated customer of Fossil. I like real leather bags, lined with pretty vintage prints. As soon at “anti-theft” enters the equation, feminine design seems to go out the door.
I can’t give this bag a great rating for being pretty, but it is slim & modern with an air of simplicity. Which also earns it bonus points for being low-profile. You’re a lot less likely to be a target for bag-snatchers & pickpockets if your purse isn’t a luxury red Prada.
Another thing that was on my must have list is a long strap, or a crossbody style as they are called. That is the best way to prevent your bag from being snatched. Wear it across your body!
Now let’s talk about the size. Of course, I wanted something in between. Not too big, not to small. I’m the type shopper that would make Goldilocks proud (and most stores annoyed). But, I did all this shopping from the comforts of my bedroom (online measurements + my trusty sewing tape, and I was set), so I could be as picky as I wanted.
This purse is: 11″ x 9.75″ x 3″ It easily holds my wallet, passport, sunglasses, keys, and Vapur 0.5L water bottle, with room to spare. Plus there are side pockets for other small random items.
Here’s another example, say if I was not in transit, but just out sightseeing: I would take out the passport & the water bottle (which can be easily clipped on the outside of the purse, BTW), and then just barely squeeze my camera inside. And it is a tight squeeze, seeing as I use a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX300. If you use a small point & shoot, it’s no problem. If you use a full-size DSLR with extra lenses, then this purse is not for you. You probably know that anyways, and you’re also probably on the look out for a smart camera bag.
As for the durability of this anti-theft shoulder bag, it is super. I’ve owned it for over a year, and it still looks great. There is some minor wear on the tiny strap attaching the lobster-claw, but it’s nothing significant (you might notice the little fuzzies in the close-up picture). What amazed me is how clean the bottom of the bag is. There are literally no stains anywhere. I’m pretty tough on my purses, I won’t lie. They get set down on grimy floors, bare ground, questionable bus seats, etc. I’ve taken this bag with me to Panama, Canada, and a lot of the US. It’s held up exceptionally well.
